We require certain equipment and safety gear to be able to play hockey without any risk. Otherwise, even a little negligence may result in serious injury. The most common equipment of hockey includes shoulders, pads, elbow pads, helmet, ball, puck, hockey stick, and jockstrap. Moreover, the field of hockey is mostly in a rectangular shape that is divided into two equal parts. The duration of the game is 70 minutes which consists of a break as well. However, there have been made a few changes recently in hockey so now the duration is 60 minutes that is divided into three quarters. The number of players in hockey is 11 and the team who scores the most wins the game ultimately.

The importance of hockey can also be determined by the fact that India chose it as its national game. India has a great history when it comes to sports. Also, it has many brilliant players that have achieved popularity over the years. A lot of them have done amazingly well in hockey with their talents. So, hockey, as being the national game of India, is one of the best sports in the world. The administration of schools, colleges, and universities should also encourage their students to participate in hockey. It helps keep the minds and bodies of its players healthy and fit. The government should also take hockey to the international level by offering financial facilities and funds.

Unfortunately, after the golden period, hockey has started losing its value so the future of hockey is still uncertain. The lack of interest that people show in hockey is one of the greatest reasons for the downfall of hockey. Also, the lack of necessities demotivates the youngsters so they have started preferring cricket, badminton, and other sports over hockey. If we want to bring back that golden age of hockey, it is only possible with the same love and respect that people used to have for it. Indian Hockey League must also implement effective strategies for hockey. Also, there has been a favorable agreement made between Australian hockey and Indian hockey that is great hope for its future.

In a nutshell, hockey has become the national game of India because of its talented players. We cannot deny its importance as it has a great history and benefits to offer. However, we should make it regain its worth once again through love, passion, care, and financial support that it requires.
