How to Succeed in Writing a Personal Statement

Sometimes writing a personal statement can be a real headache for students who can’t speak about themselves and writing is not their turf. The only option they find to be heaven sent is googling “pay someone to write my personal statement” and feeling relief. Such an idea is a good option, but not the only one.  Students can also learn from free samples. It’s easier than you can imagine. Just find dozens of examples online, pay attention to the points that suit your requirements and make notes in your draft.

For example, the following sample about patriotism is a good example of expressing the author’s position about a particular topic. They describe the notion itself and tells their attitude. It’s not even a personal statement, but it gives readers a hint on how to present their ideas and arguments.

Patriotism: The Sentiment that Grows when Living Abroad

Today, we live in a globalised world, where people moving around the world is very common. Therefore, it’s not unusual to find somebody who suddenly adopts more than one culture, and the feeling of love for their hometown, from the land they were born and raised, suddenly grows when living abroad. This sentiment is called patriotism. But, what does it really mean?

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it is the love for or devotion to one’s country, “Dictionary definition” (“Patriotism”). Having this said, living in another country definitely makes all that love for your hometown shine through. However, do I

feel patriotic about my own country? Getting to know foreigners showed me how much they love their country and how they are also proud of my country, which is their second home: this has made me see through them how awesome my country is.

Still, being a patriot is not only to be proud and to love your country, but you must also show concern for it. Igor Primoratz says that if “a person whose love for his/her country was not expressed in any special concern for it would scarcely be considered a patriot”. And also, he states that “once that is included. However, a willingness to make sacrifices for one’s country is implied” (par. 5)

For me, patriotism definitely gets stronger once you live abroad. But it also means to do what I can for its well-being, for this generation, and for the many more to come because we want our country to be the best it can ever be.
